JESUS IN THE PANDEMIC

JESUS IN THE PANDEMIC

by Rebecca Cloyd

It is interesting to think about community in a time like this because for many people community looks a little different right now. In the last few months we have had our school community, social community and even the community of our own family taken away. That change has affected us all in one way or another. However, despite these changes I want to remind you of a community that is not bound by the things of this world. A community that cannot be taken away with the absence of schools and businesses being shut down. This community is one that is made up of fellow believers called the body of Christ.

“God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body” - 1 Corinthians 12: 18-19

You see, God knew how important community was and so he created us with a desire for community. Although right now we are not able to be together in person, the body of Christ is still active and is still making a difference in this world for Jesus. It has been awesome to see the ways that our fellow believers have creatively shared the gospel during this time. In the last few weeks the Lord has been working in big ways through the lives of those involved with the Global Youth Force. God has lit the flame in young leaders all over the world to come together and form a community during this time and the Global Youth Force gets to be a part of that.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” - Matthew 28:19

In Matthew 28:19 we are called to go out and make disciples, and that call does not stop when social distancing is present or social norms are different. The Global Youth Force is normally a ministry that seeks to empower young leaders to change the world for Jesus, and while it is still doing that it has become so much more. The body of Christ, which is spread all over the world, sees the need for hope and truth and is coming together to share about the ultimate hope and truth- Jesus! We are seeing people from all over the world come together and stand united to make a difference in our world today more so than ever before. While this pandemic may have caused hardship, it has also united people and created a global community. As the need for community increases, so does the amount of people who want to be a part of the change. My prayer for you is that you would have eyes to see the Lord at work in your life and the lives around you, and ears to hear his call. In this time of uncertainty, we can remain certain that God is at work and is doing incredible things in our world today. Be a part of the change!
